[Three Volumes] The first edition of George Gissing's A Life's Morning in late nineteeth century half calf over burgundy pebbled boards. This three volume set, first published late in 1888, is one of the sets sold to libraries, in this case Hull Subscription Library with the library's bookplates to the three pastedowns and the note that it was acquired in June 1896 and 'Rebound April, 1898' with 'Todd and Wardell' of Hull's binder's ticket. There are no other library markings. The text is collated and complete but bound for library use without half titles or advertisements. There are some marks to the text and occasional marginal pencilled annotation. The binding is sound if scuffed. This novel was first serialised in the Cornhill Magazine before seeing book publication via Smith Elder, drawing upon many of the circumstances of Gissing's own picaresque life story.
