[6 pamphlets] A bound volume of six late eighteenth century Quaker pamphlets from the Library of York Preparative Meeting of Friends (bookplate on first pastedown). An attractive half calf binding over marbled boards, recently rebacked to style using the original green morocco label. The Fothergill pamphlet on the proposed school at Ackworth is the last item in the book, preceded by a fine fold-out engraving of the 'Elevation of the House at Ackworth' and followed by a fold-out map and plan. The other five pamphlets are: Joseph Phipps, Dissertations, 1781, James Phillips [with] Phipps' Animadversions on the Practice of Tithing, 1776, James Phillips (damage to pp 18-21) [with] John Fry, An Alphabetical Extract of all the Annual Printed Epistles, 1766, Luke Hinde [with] An Epistle to Friends, 1780, James Phillips [with] Charles Marshall, The Way of Life, 1772, Mary Hinde [with] Fothergill Letter. Each pamphlet has a contemporary note of its title and a number, with a handwritten list of the pamphlets on the first blank. John Fry's 1766 Extract of Printed Epistles is particularly interesting as it provides an overview of Quaker publishing at the time.
