Excellent presentation copy inscribed by Michael Cardew to the British potter Harry Horlock Stringer with a vintage photograph of Nigeria's most famour potter, Ladi Kwali tipped in. Inscribed on the half title: 'Michael Cardew 11th June 1972 at Wonderful Tagg's Yard' with the signature of 'Ladi Kwali' below - Nigeria's most famous potter visible next to Cardew in the vintage photograph tipped in opposite and a regular collaborator with Cardew. Additionally a notecard from Cardew to Stringer and several newspaper clippings including Cardew's obituaryfrom 1983. The book is near fine in a very good jacket, short closed tear at the head of the spine. We have recently acquired the library of Harry Horlock Stringer who was a leading British potter at the old Fulham Pottery in the 1950s where he concentrated on earthenware. Later he moved to Taggs Yard in Barnes, south-west London, where he built and ran his own school, welcoming pupils and making friends from across the world including many leading potters such as Cardew and lay enthusiasts such as the actor Ginger Rogers. Stringer experimented with his own glazes and firing techniques, and wrote a book on Raku, becoming a Fellow of the Craft Potters Association, editing the association's journal for a time and exhibiting widely as well as lecturing at home and abroad.
