Return to my Native Land - Cahier d'Un Retour Pay
6] pp 7-95 The English translation of Return to My Native Land in a version annotated and prepared for performance by the actor Cy Grant. The Guyanese actor premiered the poem at the Royal Court Theatre in London before touring the show in the late 1970s. A handbill for his performance at the Royal Court is laid in. Additionally he has annotated the text at some length creating what he notes on the half title as a 'Cut version for Jackson's Lane Community Centre Reading Fri. 27 May 1977'. Most of Grant's jottings determine where and how to cut the text for performance, with just a handful of verbal notes: 'Learn page 41' and occasional changes to the text. Grant has also written a long dedication to a friend on the verso of the front cover. Addressing 'John' he apologises for 'this copy' which is 'in a terrible state... But you may be able to see that I used most of the poem in PERFORMANCE - as the cut sections (how can one justify them?!) are fairly clearly indicated. Yours Cy.' Cy Grant's full signature also appears at the foot of the half-title.
