[10] pp 1-340 [2] An attractive first edition of Roger Deakin's modern classic of wild swimming. The book is near fine, just a little rolling at the top of the spine; the jacket is also near fine and price-clipped, similar slight rolling along the top edge. This marvellous book was inspired by John Cheever's classic short story, 'The Swimmer' which prompted Deakin to set out from his moat in Suffolk to swim through the British Isles. As the Dustjacket blurb puts it on the first edition@: 'the result is a maverick work of observation and imagination, a uniquely personal view of an island race and a people with a deep instinctive affinity with water.'
